International and Local Artists to Stir Up a Cultural Storm at Upcoming Fundraising Concert

Vancouver, B.C. – International and local hip hop and R&B artists will descend upon East Van to stir up a cultural storm.

“Rebel Musik: A Kulture Reclaimed” an all-ages fundraising concert organized by the Filipino-Canadian Youth Alliance (FCYA), is guaranteed to pack East Vancouver’s Ukrainian Hall on Friday, August 5, 2005, 8pm. The concert will feature local hip hop trio, OPC, hip hop/punk violinist virtuoso Kytami (featuring raw acoustic punk guitarist Blackie Leblanc) and R&B recording artist, Aileen dela Cruz. California-based, hip hop duo Native Guns will headline the fundraising event in which proceeds will go towards FCYA’s upcoming international youth conference, “Ipagpatuloy: Living the Storm”.

“This concert will feature some of the most talented local Filipino artists, as well as international artists” explains FCYA member and concert coordinator, Rain de Guzman. “All the performers are coming together to support the work of FCYA, our activities and events and especially our upcoming conference,” said de Guzman.

Celebrating its tenth anniversary year, a milestone achievement for a grassroots organization with no funding from either the government or private institutions, FCYA will mark this auspicious year by holding an international youth conference to highlight the legacy of Filipino youth activism and militancy.

“By bringing together Filipino artists and supporting artists and friends of the Filipino is an honour for FCYA,” explains de Guzman. “The concert will not only be a night of hip hop and dancing, but it’ll be an evening of history and solidarity,” concludes de Guzman.
