KALAYAAN CENTRE
10 KM Fundraising Walkathon

"Celebrating 10 years of Community Building Towards the Filipino Community's Genuine Equality, Development and Social Justice"
Sunday, August 26, 2007
9:00 a.m. gather at the Kalayaan Centre (451 Powell Street, Vancouver)

The Kalayaan Centre is the home of the Philippine Women Centre of B.C., Filipino Nurses Support Group, Filipino-Canadian Youth Alliance (Ugnayan ng Kabataang Pilipino sa Canada, SIKLAB (Advance the  Rights & Welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers), and the B.C. Committee  for Human Rights in the Philippines.

In 1996, the Philippine Women Centre of British Columbia took the  initiative to deepen its work in the community and brought together  progressive Filipino organizations in Vancouver to establish the  Kalayaan Centre. Since this time the Kalayaan Centre has operated to  serve the needs of and empower the growing but marginalized Filipino migrant and immigrant community in Vancouver. It is a place not only for  Filipinos to gather, but more importantly, a place where marginalized Filipinos can collectively continue the struggle to achieve equality, human rights and genuine development. The Pilipino word "Kalayaan" means  "Freedom," and was chosen as the name for the Centre as a demonstration of the deep aspirations for genuine freedom that Filipinos hold wherever  they may be.

This year we are celebrating the Centre's first decade of operation from 1996-2007.

We are organizing a 10 KM Fundraising Walkathon to help us continue providing our programs and services in the community as part of our celebrations!

If you're interested in participating in the walkathon or pledging one of our members, please contact Leah at 604-215-1103 or pwc@kalayaancentre.net
